Futoshi Shibasaki 박사는 현재 동경 임상 의학 종합연구소(Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Medical Science) 에서 Molecular Cell Physiology 학과장과 Translational Research Project의 Project Leader로 재직하고 있다.

Shibasaki 박사는 1984년 Okayama 대학교 의과대학에서 의학박사 학위를 취득하고, National Medical Center Hospital 호흡기 내과에서 레지던트 전공의 과정을 마친 후 Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology와 동경대학교 의과학 연구소 (Institute of Medical Science) 종양생물학과에서 전임연구원으로 활동하였다.

1993년 동경대학교에서 Purification and characterization of phosphatidylinositol-3 kinases and a role in signal transduction 주제로 박사학위를 취득한 뒤 1995년까지 미국 하버드대학교 Cell Biology 학과에서 박사 후 연구원으로 재직하면서 "Long-term fellowship of Human Frontier Science Program"에 참여하였고, 그 후 1997년까지 동 대학교에서 전임강사로 활동하였다. 그 후 동경 임상 의학 종합연구소에서 지금까지 활발한 연구를 수행하고 있다. 현재 일본 내과학회의 특별회원으로도 활동하고 있다.

그는 인지질과 같은 지질대사과정과 2차 전달자에서 의한 신호전달체계, 허혈성뇌질환과 심혈관계질환에 특이적인 신약후보물질 및 표적 단백질 동정 등을 중심으로 활발한 연구를 진행하여 수 편의 Nature 논문을 발표하였으며 최근에는 Must Tag이라는 새로운 기법을 활용한 biomarker발굴 기술을 개발하여 연구결과의 비롯하여 수 많은 논문을 출간함으로써 커다란 연구성과들을 발표하고 있다.
